So I'll start it off, I guess. I have worked with
so many doctors and other providers over the years
while trying to track down several diagnoses. The
latest one is Dr. Travis Miller that works at
Capital Allergy and Respiratory Disease Center
(locations in Sac, Folsom, and Roseville;
http://www.capitalallergy.com/ on the web). I've
only had one visit with Dr. Miller so far, but
thought he was very on top of testing and Celiac
disease. I also go to Linda Clark at Universal
Wellness Associates (
http://www.universalwellnessassociates.com/ )for
nutrition and homeopathic treatment---be warned
that insurance does not cover her services,
however. Another doctor I would recommend for
fibromyalgia is Dr. Michael Powell (
http://www.fmtlc.com/index.html ) . For
acupuncture, I go to Wendy Stedeford (
http://www.wendystedeford.net/ ) but I should
disclose that I am also friends with her (and
designed her website). El Dorado Physical Therapy
also has a fantastic staff at all their locations,
if you ever have need of their skills.

Dr. Erik Pecha, my personal gastro, and all of
his associates in the Gastroenterology Medical

other Celiacs about Yinka Davies, Sutter
Roseville; Dr. Retodo, Kaiser; Dr. Natasha Fine,
El Dorado Hills; Dr Lee, Kaiser Morris Ave; Dr.
Matzayama, Sutter Roseville; Dr. Holthouse, M.D.
Alternative Meds, Placerville; and Dr. Michael

Pediatric endocrinologist
Dear Angela, Could you please add Dr. Prakasam to
your good doctor list? He's a pediatric
endocrinologist, 733-0888, practices in Sacramento
and Roseville, was educated in England, tests his
type-1 diabetic patients once a year for celiac,
and is "awesome" per the mom who mentioned him to
me. Thanks for what you do, Diane

Charles H Halsted, MD
Dr. Halsted, who spoke to our group on 2/9/08,
sees patients at 2826 J Street, Suite 400,
Sacramento 95816. The best approach is a
referral from the patient’s primary MD. Dr.
Halsted is a gastroenterologist and Professor
Emeritus of Internal Medicine and Nutrition.
916-734-0779.

Accommodating Dr.'s
I'd like to add a Dr. to your list...Dr. Susan
Johnson, in Colfax. She is a Pediatrician, with
a large emphasis on Anthroposophy. I found her
to be excellent! A fabulous bridge between
traditional and alternative medicines.
Extremely knowledgeable!

Kaiser Primary Doc for Diagnosis
Dr. R. Kahn, a primary doctor at Kaiser
Riverside, told her new patient on the patient's
first visit that she might have celiac
disease.... After 3 years of suffering, the
patient is getting well.

U C Davis clinic doctors
With disclaimer that everyone needs to do their
own homework before choosing a doctor
recommended by others: Dr. Jeffrey Applebaum,
MD is my general practitioner who is more
familiar with Celiac Disease than any Doctor I
have had in the past. He has advised me that he
has several patients with Celiac Disease and was
responsible for having afamily's 2 out of 3
children diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Very
pleasant doctor to deal with. Cares about my
health. Dr. Amar Al-Juburi, MD - Assistant
Clinical Professor , Gastroenterology is very
pleasant and very patient, sits back and takes
the time to talk to you. Talks in detail about
Celiac Disease and in dealing with it. He works
2 days a week at the Folsom clinic (the clinic I
go to, located at 251 Turnpike Drive Folsom
95630) and 3 days a week at the downtown U C
Davis facility. Hope this helps others. Dan

Dermatologist to diagnose DH
A patient reports a very positive experience
with Dr. Barnett in Tracy. He recognized her
rash as probable DH, took a "proper" sample for
biopsy, and explained both the test results and
her choices regarding dapsone vs. the gluten-
free diet.

Holistic Medicine
I've received a lot of positive feedback
regarding Dr. Mark Holthouse, Center for
Functional and Integrative Medicine in Cameron
Park. Mark Holthouse is a traditional family
M.D. who has effectively incorporated
comprehensive holistic training into his medical
practice. He specializes in autoimmune disorders
and chronic disease prevention, many of which are
related to gluten and dairy intolerance. Dr.
Holthouse believes in treating patients from a
preventative standpoint, as opposed to waiting
until traditional test results prove there is
extensive damage and symptoms have become
severe.

Looking for Kaiser Celiac "Experts"
Hi! I'm a "newbie" and will be getting insurance
with Kaiser in a couple months, and was hoping
someone could point me to a "excellent" doctor
there. I will look into the two listed above, but
any other suggestions would be appreciated (I can
go to any of the local facilities- I just want the
most knowledgeable doc!) Thanks!
