More restaurants
Kathe reminded me that Redbud Cafe, Sequioa, and
Heyday may be workable for GF. I added them to
the links, along with Cafe Mahjaic in Lotus.

Sprouts in South Lake Tahoe
Sprouts Natural Cafe has some GF options, and uses
natural and organic ingredients. Here is a link
to a writeup on Frommer's

Bring your cash, though, because they don't take
credit or debit cards!

Taste
First thank you so much for starting this BLOG
Angela. It is so nice to have an easy source for
those living in our area.
I had the best meal at Taste in Plymouth. I
called ahead of time to alert them of my dietary
requirements. When I arrived every waiter that
waited on me knew that I was eating gluten-free.
Before I arrived I was assured there would be food
available for me. The server made suggestions -
which all sounded divine. I knew I would need to
forgo the mushroom cigar appetizer that my friends
were sharing. To my surprise they brought out one
for me, minus the phyllo chimney. The
presentation was wonderful. Everyone else was
envious of my service. Instead of feeling like a
big pain, I felt like a very special person. I
highly recommend this restaurant. Yes, it is
higher end and I do suggest reservations. If you
go early, you may not need reservations.

More on Dos Coyotes
The South Davis location will wrap your corn
tortilla in foil and heat it on the grill, instead
of cooking it in oil also used for flour tortillas
and chips. Unverified information that rice and
beans contain bouillon; will post if proven
follow-up.

PaChanga in Old Folsom
I contacted PaChanga, located in Old Folsom, and
several of there items are gluten free or can be
easily made gluten free including: lemon garlic
prawns, steamed clams and mussels, baby back ribs,
garlic marinaded tri tip, pesto crusted salmon,
chicken or pork Murphy, and grilled pork
tenderloin. I've never actually been there but
that's the info. I was given. Let me know if you
try this place out.

Islands in Folsom
Has anyone ever eaten here? I have their allergen
menu and you can have any salad without croûtons,
and any burger or sandwich w/o the bun, or bring
your own. The info is all the website.

BJ's
BJ's corporate office was very nice to me over the
phone. The wait staff does not know anything but
the chef will come out to talk with you. From
what I was told all dressings, fries, rice, and
grilled chicken contain gluten. Omit any sauce,
salad dressing, croûtons, mashed potatoes, and
chili from any dish, and ask for steamed veggies
without any seasoning. With that said, you can
order the chicken lettuce wraps, chicken wings,
house salad, Garden Medley Salad, Italian Chopped
Salad, Santa Fe Salad (no tortilla strip), any of
the stuffed potatoes (keeping the previous rules
in mind), roasted chicken, New York steak, and
Fresh Salmon Fillet. I know they're in Folsom,
and not nontechnically in El Dorado County, but in
case you ever roll down the hill, I thought I'd share.

NYC certified GF restaurant
There's a Certified Gluten Free Restaurant in
New York where I had the fabulous pleasure of
eating the best food and breadsticks I have ever
eaten in my life - regular or gluten free!!!
I just wanted to share this with and let anyone
who is planning on going to New York City know
there is a wonderful restaurant where they can
eat their heart out - and never ever worry about
getting sick from gluten!!! They even have
desserts and beer!!!! (gluten free of course!!)
I talked to the owner and he told me how it took
him months to get certified - and months to come
up with their breadstick recipe. That day when
I just dropped by to visit he even gave me a
handful of breadsticks to munch on till we came
back at dinner time!
The name is Risotteria Restaurant, located at
270 Bleecker Street, New York City (212) 924-
6664, website www.risotteria.com, 212-924-6664.
When I received their email about selling their
products on-line I just had to share!
hugs - Nancy

Cattlemen's Dixon
I am writing to report a very positive
experience I recently had at thesteakhouse
Cattlemens in Dixon.I was supposed to go there
for my husband's birthday and I wrote to
themanager in advance to ask if he could provide
me with a gluten free menu. The manager did not
answer my e mail, but instead called me! He was
verynice, he admitted not to be very informed
about celiac disease and glutenfree diet but
offered to help me and suggested me to see him
when I would gofor dinner. When I arrived at the
restaurant he promptly came and we wentthroug
the menu together, he then offered to come and
see my orderpersonally after I decided what to
have to make sure it was ok. Wile I wasat the
table he spoke with the server and came to
check.I know that a steakhouse is probably
an "easy"place to eat gluten free, butI was very
surprised to find such a cooperation!

Maui Tacos
I have been to Maui Tacos by the EDH theater and
been fine with their fish tacos, and finally
checked their menu online---nearly everything they
have is GF! I would still remind them of
cross-contamination issues at each visit, but
that's pretty promising. Their website is
http://www.mauitacos.com/nutritionals.htm
|
U Food Grill
The U Food Grill has a gf menu. Chapter hasn't
gone there yet - but we will!
|
New Places to Check Out
I've been wanting to check out U Food Grill and
the Greenhouse but have not gotten to go yet. I
sense a group outing is in order.
|
Please include a city
Recent entries prompt a reminder to please include
at least the city when you are mentioning
restaurants, a cross street is great too. For
example, there is a Greeenhouse Cafe in
Placerville and The Greenhouse Restaurant &
Brewery in Roseville. Thanks

Bidwell Street Bistro in Folsom
We ate at Bidwell Street Bistro tonight, it wasn't
very busy when we got there at 5:30 on a Monday.
I ordered the duck confit, a regular item on their
menu, and did just fine. The waiter was
accommodating, willing to ask if he didn't know
the answer to my 20 Questions. The meal was great
(it's nice to have some flavor in a GF meal,
instead of a plain slab of fish or something) but
salty.

Sequoia
We went to Sequoia in early January and had a
great experience. I was able to get their special
with no modifications: herb-rubbed bass topped
with avocado relish, warm slaw with raspberry
dressing, white bean ragout. Even the salad was
good without the jack cheese. The waiter and I
talked about how rare it is to get a dish the way
the chef intends, when you normally have to omit
or substitute things. And BTW, this was a
Saturday night at about 6, and they were still
able to accommodate me.

Mylapore (Indian) Folsom
We went to Mylapore for lunch on Valentine's and
it was a success; their main dishes are "dosa," an
enormous crepe made of RICE FLOUR. They do make a
wheat version but they're pretty clearly labeled.
You can get various vegetarian fillings in the
dosa (everything they have is vegetarian, but they
use some yogurt so not everything is vegan) and it
comes with various chutneys and a lentil dipping
soup. Their food is from a different region of
India than we are used to, but we quite enjoyed
it. They were helpful about what I could order, also.

Crush 29 Roseville
Crush 29 in Roseville has a GF menu. You cannot
view it online, but they have one at the
restaurant. I have been their twice and eaten off
the GF menu. It is good, but quite pricey.

Malabar -Folsom on Prairie City near Iron Point
Have been twice to Malabar (American Cooking)
and both waiters have made a point to tell us
the Chef is knowledgable about GF and can adjust
many items on the menu to be GF. Had good
experiences, a little pricey but close to home.

Comment on Islands Restaurants
While I have not eaten at the Islands restaurant
in Folsom, my husband and I did eat at the one in
Pasadena. We had salads, no croutons, checked
the dressing, discussed the g-f issues with the
waiter, etc. We were both sick. Yikes! Kathe

Sprouts in Tahoe?
I'd love to know more about Sprouts in Tahoe. Is
the staff aware if I were to walk in and ask what
is gluten free? Do they have a list? What did you
eat there?

Restaurant Reviews
I try to eat out & review everywhere I go on my
blog. Just found out that all Hyatt's have a
database for their guests with food allergies, and
did a block about places to dine in SoCal. You
can check it out at:

More on Sprouts
They didn't have a GF menu when we went, but the
staff seemed pretty knowledgeable. I got a bowl
with rice, turkey, beans, salsa, avocado, etc.
Very simple but flavorful, and I was delighted to
find some turkey items since I'm allergic to
chicken. They have different wraps that you can
order as a bowl, and some of their soups are GF.
Their menu seems to change, and we don't go there
frequently enough to have the same thing twice.
Hope this helps.

Fats Restaurant
I had a wonderful experience at Fats in Folsom!
They are very familiar with Celiac Disease. The
manager and Chef came out and spoke with me and
when I left, the manager made me my own "cheat
sheet" menu on what I can order with no
substitutes needed and what to substitute on the
other items. Oh; and we can not have the beef;
it comes marinated in Beer. Here are some of
the items you can order "as is": Chicken in
lettuce cup, Vietnamese Spring Roll, Kung Pao
Shrimp and Chicken, Mango Ginger Chicken, Lemon
Grass Chicken, Shrimp Pad Thai, and Thai Spicy
Garlic Shrimp. The rest just can't be breaded
and have no soy sauce. I highly recommend
eating there; I go often and have not gotten
sick once. Enjoy!

complete menu for us
I recently went to the outback in vacaville ca.
and was pleasantly supprised to find out that the
restraunt has a complete gluten free menu for
people with celiacs disease. I did go to Mary's
pizza and asked for a menu to look at for people
with allergy to gluten, and was told they offered
only one pizza- gluten free, pinnaple and
canadian bacon, It was'nt too bad, just wish
there was more variety-maybe in the future.

Folsom Chili's Restaurant
I have discovered that Chili's by the theater in
Folsom has a Gluten Free Menu - I ordered their
potato soup with salad and it was delicious - they
also serve baby back ribs GF, but I haven't tried
them as yet. The servers all seem to be very
aware of GF items--you must try it.

Sunflower Drive-In, Fair Oaks
Sunflower Drive-In, located at 10344 Fair Oaks
Boulevard in Fair Oaks Village. This modest
roadside stand offers an entirely vegetarian
menu, including nut burgers, tacos, salads and
smoothies. There’s often a line outside this
longtime village staple’s pickup window. They
have rice tortillas for burritos, if you ask [not
on menu.
|
Chipotles
There are 6 Chipotles in Sacto, and the offer
made from scratch -in-front-of-you meals,with
humanely raised meats. I love the rice, bean,
vegie salad, and they build it as you watch.
This is my favorite glutenfree friendly
restaurant.

Gluten Free Maps
I put together a website for people to submit
their favorite gluten free restaurants to a map
for everyone to see. I would really like to see
more in the Tahoe area :)

makunis and fresh choice
I went to a makuni's Japanese restuarant in Elk
Grove yesterday and they have a new gluten free
menu. Hopefully the one on Hazel has one too.
They now have gluten free soy sauce, teriaki
sauce, salad dressing and gluten free sauces for
four rolls they will make for you. I was very
impressed and they all tasted very good!
I went to a fresh choice in Citrus Heights
and they had allergy codes for most of their
offerings including gluten free. Nice to pick a
salad dressing and already mixed salads without
worrying.
